Arts programs receive $500,000 in grants

Rutgers programs in the arts and literature recently were awarded $425,737 in grants by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA) and $124,000 by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. The grants support a variety of initiatives in visual arts, arts education and multidisciplinary programming.
NJSCA awarded the Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts three grants totaling $190,350, and the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper two grants totaling $37,600. The Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum received a single grant of $134,862.
Grants also were announced for the Shoestring Players ($23,550), the Center for Latino Arts and Culture in New Brunswick ($20,000) and the Rutgers-Camden Writers Conference ($9,375). In addition, the Faculty of Management on the Newark campus received $10,000 for its arts internship program.
The Dodge Foundation, based in Morristown, awarded three grants to Rutgers: $30,000 to the Center for Latino Arts and Culture for a major exhibition and conference; $54,000 to the Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts for programming for youth; and $40,000 to the Zimmerli Museum for community outreach and education.
NJSCA also awarded $31,200 to Randy James DanceWorks, led by Randy James, assistant professor of dance at the Mason Gross School of the Arts.
