In Brief
Camden students provide free income tax assistance
Archived article from Mar 20, 2006
Thanks to two Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs, hundreds of low-income New Jersey citizens will receive a real break from Camden students providing free assistance in preparing federal and New Jersey income tax returns. At the law school at Camden, more than 100 student-volunteers will help clients complete their tax returns on time and identify as many
deductions as possible. In 2005, Camden law students assisted about 270 clients and helped to secure $250,000 in refunds above the amounts owed. In addition, about 20 Camden
undergraduate business students and alumni are providing similar services through a
VITA program coordinated by the Sen. Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs. The law school’s program is offered at the Camden Free Public Library on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. through April 12, and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 and April 8.
