College of Nursing to introduce Rutgers' first online Ph.D program

This fall, the College of Nursing will introduce the university’s first online doctoral program. The program aims to attract doctoral candidates who want to pursue a Ph.D. in nursing but can’t attend a traditional classroom setting because of family and work demands. “Over the past several years, potential candidates were interested in enrolling in our Ph.D. nursing program but found it difficult to come to the Newark campus for the course work,” said Wendy Nehring, associate dean for academic affairs at the College of Nursing. “Many of them wanted an online Ph.D. program and we are responding to demand.” During the first year, the program software will be installed in students’ laptops. Students will be taught how to navigate the online courses and access Rutgers resources during a two-week session on the Newark campus in August.
