Newark, New Jersey's largest city, is undergoing a renaissance. There's a vibrant art scene anchored by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the Newark Museum; a thriving government and legal community; and four dynamic educational institutions -- the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Essex County College, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Rutgers-Newark.
To put this rebirth into perspective, the Rutgers-Newark Office of Campus Communications developed Destination Newark, a project that includes a 20-page brochure, a small welcome brochure and enhancements to the campus's Web site. There's also a newly drawn map by noted mapmaker/artist Albert Lorenz that depicts the campus in the context of downtown and the surrounding region.
The large brochure features interviews with students, alumni, professors and leaders of the business and art communities, such as history Professor Clement Price; Dave Barger, vice president of Continental Airlines; and Mary Sue Sweeney Price, director of the Newark Museum.
Copies of Destination Newark are available from the Rutgers-Newark Office of Campus Communications at ext. 5262. The campus's improved Web site can be found at rutgers-newark.rutgers.edu. The new map can also be viewed online at rutgers-newark.rutgers.edu/newarkmap.html.
