Newark Provost Steven J. Diner is one of three civic leaders who will be recognized, along with their organizations, by Leadership Newark, Inc., as an outstanding community partner who provided “consistent support of the Leadership Newark mission while we have been developing leaders for the City of Newark.” The awards will be given Nov. 18 at a reception in honor of Leadership Newark’s sixth anniversary.
In announcing the honor, Leadership Newark’s executive director, Celia M. King, told Diner, “Your support has continuously added value to Leadership Newark on many levels. There is no doubt our relationship will grow.” She noted that Diner’s support of Leadership Newark dates back to its early days, when he was dean of the Rutgers-Newark Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Diner has made the campus’s faculty and research resources available to Leadership Newark, spoken at its programs, and provided overall support for Leadership Newark in the delivery of its curriculum to Leadership Newark fellows.
Leadership Newark’s mission is to strengthen the city’s infrastructure by developing future civic leaders. Participants take part in a two-year fellowship designed to help them build the skills, knowledge and networking connections to improve the city’s future. This is the first year Leadership Newark will be giving the Community Partner award.
