Rutgers employees are once again being asked to give generously to the New Jersey Employees Charitable Campaign, also known at the university as the Combined Charities Campaign. The goal of the statewide 2002-03 campaign is to raise $2.2 million, about 4 percent more than last year's campaign raised.
The campaign, administered by United Way of Greater Mercer County, collects donations from state employees, primarily through payroll deductions, and distributes them to charitable organizations registered in New Jersey.
"Rutgers' faculty and staff have a long-standing tradition of support for the Combined Charities Campaign," said acting President Norman Samuels. "I urge all university employees to participate and, if possible, increase their level of giving this year so that we may help the statewide campaign reach its goal."
In October, employees received a packet of information about the campaign. Included in the package is a pledge form and a directory of charitable organizations to which employees can assign their contributions.
In addition to donating through payroll deductions, employees can make a single donation through a check or cash. The campaign will end Nov. 22, but many departmental coordinators have set earlier deadlines for when pledge forms are due.
This year, employees will be able to give to 37 federations and their member agencies, as well as 95 unaffiliated agencies, including the Rutgers University Foundation. These organizations provide a variety of health, education and welfare services, or conduct environmental or conservation activities. Donations to organizations not listed in the directory can also be made but must be done through check or cash; these donations will not be included in the overall campaign fund.
