Guenther Knoblich, associate professor, psychology (Newark), was the recipient of the 2005 American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology.

Beth Leech, associate professor, political science (NB) received the Political Organizations and Parties section's Emerging Scholar Award from the American Political Science Association.

The New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research honored "Volcanoes of the Deep Sea," the IMAX movie based on research from Rutgers, citing the film for its contribution to scientific literacy. Richard A. Lutz, a professor at Rutgers' Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences and science director of the film, accepted the award.

Patrice Mareschal, assistant professor, department of public policy and administration (Camden), is a co-winner of the 2005 Labor and Employment Relations Association's Susan C. Eaton Scholar-Practitioner Research Project Award. Mareschal and co-winner Carol Zabin of the University of California, Berkeley study unionization efforts in home and community-based care industries, including home health care, childcare and services for the developmentally disabled.

David Mechanic, professor and director of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, has been invited to deliver the first Matilda White Riley Annual Lecture in behavioral and social sciences at the National Institutes of Health. The lecture is in memory of Matilda Riley, a Rutgers College faculty member in the 1960s.

Saul Mendlovitz, professor, School of Law-Newark, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Center for United Nations Reform Education and has been reappointed to the board of trustees of Global Education Associates and to the board of the Law and Humanities Institute.

Steven Molinelli, 2nd lieutenant in the public safety division (NB), has been awarded the ASIS International Central New Jersey Supervisor of the Year Award for his role in the development of the largest trained and certified university student security force in the United States.

Yvette R. Murry, acting director of the Citizenship and Service Education (CASE) Program in New Brunswick/ Piscataway, has been named Experiential Education Rising Leader of the Year by the National Society for Experiential Education. She also was elected to the society's board of directors.

Daniel Pascale, commander of security operations (NB), has been awarded the Regional Certification Award by the ASIS Professional Certification Board for his efforts in organizing and conducting a Certified Protection Professional course for security professional review.

Julia Plotnick, visiting professor, (College of Nursing), has received a 2005 Diva Award from the Institute of Nursing, New Jersey State Nurses Association, for her contributions to nursing science in New Jersey.

Norma Riccucci, professor, public administration (Newark), was recently elected a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

Gordon Schochet, professor, political science (NB), is the founding co-editor of a new journal, Hebraic Political Studies, published by Shalem Press in Jerusalem. He is the founder and a member of the steering committee of the Center for the
History of British Political Thought at the Folger Shakespeare Library.

Mary Ann Scoloveno, associate professor, College of Nursing, received the 2005 Governor's Nursing Merit Award in the nurse educator category from the N.J. Department of Health and Senior Services. In addition, Seton Hall University College of Nursing named her a Hall of Honor recipient.

Margaret Shiffrar, professor, psychology (Newark) was elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. She also received a Lansdowne Scholar Award from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and was awarded a Max Planck Gesellschaft Scholarship from the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich, Germany.
