The Rutgers Board of Governors held its annual meeting June 13, where members of the university community were recognized and honored.
The governors approved resolutions naming Charlotte Bunch a Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor and Rachel Hadas a Board of Governors Professor of English.
The board paid special tribute to Norman Samuels, who stepped down June 30 as provost of the Newark campus after serving nearly 20 years. A resolution acknowledged his many achievements. The group did the same for Louis T. DiFazio, a retired president of Bristol-Myers Squibb, whose term as a trustee member expired at the end of June.
The board also passed resolutions establishing three new degree programs: a bachelor of science in astrophysics, and a master of science and a doctor of philosophy in medicinal chemistry.
