In Brief
Law clinics to extend reach to at-risk, homeless youth
Archived article from Mar 20, 2006
At-risk youth will receive direct legal assistance from law clinics at Rutgers-Newark under a collaborative program funded by a $40,000 grant from the New Jersey State Bar Foundation. The Community Law Clinic will partner with Covenant House New Jersey, which serves homeless and runaway youths, to create a new program called the Youth Advocacy Project. It will give Rutgers law students the opportunity to provide legal support to vulnerable youths aging out of foster care and will train new lawyers in the representation of young adults and nonprofits. The grant provides for one fellowship, administrative oversight and corporate legal assistance by the Community Law Clinic, and legal services by the Child Advocacy Clinic and the Urban Legal Clinic.
