President's staff recognition awards program honors individuals, work teams

University departments that collaborated in sharing information and resources while improving services to the university, and employees who routinely go beyond their job descriptions were honored at the second annual President’s Recognition Program Awards Ceremony.

Six employees received Excellence in Service Awards, and 10 collaborative, interdepartmental groups received Bridge Awards at the ceremony held Oct. 17 at the Rutgers Student Center in New Brunswick.

“This day is about giving credit where it is most certainly due,” said President Richard L. McCormick at the ceremony. “No great university can operate effectively without highly trained and committed staff members. Of course, we naturally celebrate the work of our world-class faculty for their outstanding research and their teaching, and this group is fundamental to our mission. But there is another important group of employees to be acknowledged for playing an equally vital role in helping to advance the university’s mission and goals.”

The ceremony, planned and organized by University Human Resources, was preceded by a showcase event at which each Bridge Award-nominated group displayed a presentation of their project. The displays illustrated work processes, team goals and outcomes, and their impact on the Rutgers community. This year, 89 individuals were nominated for Excellence in Service Awards and 39 teams composed of 358 employees were nominated for Bridge Awards. Individual winners each received a $100 check; teams, a $350 gift card. For a full list of nominees, visit uhr.rutgers. edu/pres-nominees-2005.html.

Bridge Awards

Blackboard System Implementation and Course Development Support Team
In March 2001, the Newark campus decided to extend use of the Blackboard course management system from its departmental position to the campus. An interdepartmental implementation planning team was put into place to ensure the success of the project, which went live for the fall 2004 semester. This broad, collaborative effort contributed to the provost’s goals to strengthen undergraduate education and to expand the use of technology in the instructional process.
