Presidential search is making progress

This summer was a busy and productive one for the members of the Presidential Search Committee, which has begun screening candidates for the Rutgers presidency. The committee reviewed more than 200 nominations and applications.
According to John L. Colaizzi, dean of the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and chair of the Presidential Search Committee, the members were impressed with the caliber of the candidates and the high level of national interest in the position. He believes the search is progressing expeditiously and should culminate in the selection of final candidates sometime during the fall semester.
"We have narrowed the list down to fewer than 20 serious prospects best matched to our list of criteria for this position," said Colaizzi. "The dynamic nature of the search process means that the number of serious candidates under consideration fluctuates as new suggestions come in and the evaluation process moves forward."
Although work has progressed significantly, the committee remains open to nominations and resumes, and will consider all candidates right up to the moment it presents the finalists to the Board of Governors' Presidential Screening Committee.
The process is currently in a very intense phase, said Colaizzi. Members of the committee are meeting frequently to narrow the list down to no more than five finalists.
"As a group, we remain committed to maintaining confidentiality to ensure we can continue to keep our most outstanding prospects engaged in the process," said Colaizzi. "We are working to reach a successful conclusion to the search process as quickly as possible."
