The Rev. Moses Williams, sexton at Kirkpatrick Chapel, right, supervises the loading of books for a six-week journey by sea to Johannesburg, South Africa. Williams is co-coordinator of “Linking America to Africa with Books,” an 18-month effort to collect books for South African prekindergarten and elementary school children. At left, volunteers load the 45-foot container. Rutgers, a co-sponsor of the event, helped collect some 40,000 volumes, along with religious reading material and audiotapes of local church services, that will be distributed to schools and other organizations.
