Rutgers police urge participation in ICE cell phone campaign
Archived article from Sep 26, 2005
A campaign encouraging people to enter emergency contact numbers in their mobile phones’ memories under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency) is spreading rapidly throughout the world as a consequence of the recent terrorist attacks in London.
With ICE, your cell phone can be used to identify an emergency contact to help rescuers get in touch with a friend or relative who could be vital in a life-or-death situation.
Rutgers is encouraging students, faculty and staff to program their cell phones with one or more emergency contacts. The process is simple: Assign the word “ICE” to the number of an emergency contact, then save the ICE number to your cell phone directory. Use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc. for more than one emergency contact.
If you have any questions or concerns about this program, or should you need any
assistance with programming your phones, call the Rutgers University Police Department
at 732-932-7211.
