Free summer concerts
Mason Gross School of the Arts will present several free concerts this summer as part of its Mason Gross Presents series.
The series will feature two jazz concerts and performances by a percussion ensemble and a klezmer group.
The event dates, time and locations are as follows:
Wednesday, July 7, 8 p.m.: Rutgers Jazz Quintet, Bettenbender Plaza
Saturday, July 10, 8 p.m.: Rutgers Jazz Faculty Ensemble, Bettenbender Plaza
Saturday, July 17, 8 p.m.: Metropolitan Klezmer, Nicholas Music Center
Wednesday, July 21, 8 p.m.: Rutgers Percussion Ensemble, Bettenbender Plaza
Rain site for events scheduled at Bettenbender Plaza will be Nicholas Music Center.

Summer Writers’ Conference
Accomplished novelists, editors and poets will provide guidance to aspiring writers during the 18th annual Rutgers–Camden Summer Writers’ Conference Monday, June 21, through Wednesday, June 30. The conference includes daily workshops and free evening readings. Workshops on writing poetry, fiction and personal essays will be offered in this intensive program, which can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit.
Conference writers will include poets J.T. Barbarese, Jill Bialosky, Anthony Butts, W.S. DiPiero and Victoria Redel; novelists Max Apple, Percival Everett, Denise Gess, Laurie Stone and Lisa Zeidner; editors Susan Muaddi Darraj and Dahlia Lithwick; and writer James Marcus.
Free readings will be held daily at 7 p.m. from Tuesday, June 22, to Friday, June 25; and again Monday, June 28, to Wednesday, June 30, in the Stedman Gallery, Fine Arts Complex on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Advance registration is required for the workshops but not for the readings, which are open to the public. New Jersey International Film Festival
Nearly 30 new and classic films and videos, 10 director appearances, five film/video workshops and the fourth annual Dinner and a Movie Series will be part of the 2004 New Jersey International Film Festival.
The film festival, presented by the Rutgers Film Co-op/NJMAC, the Rutgers University Program in Cinema Studies and Eastman Kodak, will run from June 4 through July 25. Following are a few of the films to be shown. For a complete schedule, visit www.njfilmfest.com or call 2-8482.
June 4-6 — “Wildwood Days” and “Divan,” 7 p.m. Scott Hall. The directors of both films will attend the screenings. June 10 — “Citizen Kane,” 7 p.m. Loree Hall. June 18-20 — “Bludren,” “My Paper Castle” and “The Barbarian Invasions,” 7 p.m. Scott Hall.
July 15 — “Eraserhead,” featuring a shot-by-shot analysis by Al Nigrin, director of the film festival, 7 p.m. Loree Hall.
The Dinner and a Movie series will be held at Crossroads Theatre in downtown New Brunswick. Screenings begin at 6:30 p.m.: July 29, “Pirates of the Caribbean”; Aug. 5, “National Lampoon’s Animal House”; Aug. 12, “Creature From the Black Lagoon” (in 3-D); and Aug. 19, “Mona Lisa Smile.”
