Julia K. Gross Parrish, widow of former Rutgers University President Mason W. Gross, died on July 22, 2007.
The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the home of Charles and Gloria Gross, 190 Manor Parkway, Lincroft. Interment will be private.
JULIA KERNAN GROSS PARRISH, 94, of RED BANK, was the widow of Mason Welch Gross (1911-77) of Rumson, and William Judson Parrish (1909-93) of Peru, Vt. Born in 1912 in Savannah, Ga., she was the daughter of Jessie Clark Wood and Reginald Devereux Kernan of Utica, N.Y. Julia Parrish graduated from Milton Academy, Milton, Mass., in 1930 and from Vassar College in 1934. In 1940, she married Mason Welch Gross, who was the president of Rutgers University from 1959 to 1971. She attended Rutgers Library School and was the founding librarian at Forrestdale Elementary School in Rumson.
She is survived by her children, Ellen Clarissa Gross Miles of Bethesda, Md., Katharine Wood Gross Farnham of Atlanta, Charles Welles Gross of Lincroft, Thomas Welch Gross of Sebastopol, Calif., and Alan Parrish of Amherst, Mass.; her grandchildren, Julia Kernan Farnham Goldstein of Narberth, Pa., Richard Bayles Farnham of Nederland, Colo., John Mason Gross of Sacramento, Calif., and Spencer Zane Baretz of New York City and their families; and eight nieces and nephews and their families.
