Joseph S. Obecny, Retired Faculty, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, died on December 12, 2007. Dr. Obecny was the Director of the Rutgers Business School's Executive MBA Program.
Dr. Obecny was married for 21 years to Madeleine Moriarty Obecny, with
whom he also shared a home in Beaverkill, New York. He was born at home in Midland Park, New Jersey on April 24, 1925, to parents Joseph and Bellemarie.and had two sisters, Dorothy Fielder(deceased) and Jeannette Baba. He received his undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from Rutgers University, where he was ultimately employed for much of his distinguished career. Dr. Obecny was the director of placement and thereafter director of the Executive M.B.A. program for Rutgers Business School until his retirement in 1986. A World War II
veteran and proud member of the 288th Field Artillery Observation
Battalion, he received three battle stars for his participation in the
battles of the Bulge, Rhine and Central Europe. He is survived by his wife, Madeleine; sons, William and Carlton; stepchildren, Joseph Anclien, Jeffrey Anclien, Michelle Cadigan and James Anclien; sister, Jeannette Baba; and 16 grandchildren from his and his wife's families.
