Lawrence Fisher, Retired Faculty, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, died on April 10, 2008. Professor Fisher was a member of the Finance and Economics Department.
Professor Fisher did extensive work with stocks and bonds, including investigating risks and returns of individual stocks, developing new stock return indexes, studying the risk of default and liquidity on promised yields of corporate bonds, and calculating yield curves. He joined the Rutgers Business School faculty in 1978; he was instrumental in initiating the Ph.D. in Management Program. He served as its director for many years, retiring in 2005. At RBS, he continued his distinguished career as creator of the CRSP database and was the author of seminal work in event studies in finance. Fisher had an extensive background in portfolio theory and stock and bond market behavior.
