Michael K. Taussig, Retired Faculty, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, died on February 24, 2010.
The funeral will be private. A celebration of Michael's life by his family and friends will be held at a later date.
Michael Taussig, 71, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at the Parker Home, Piscataway, after a long illness. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, he came to the United States as an infant. The family moved to Colorado where he attended high school, graduating as one of the first Merit Scholars. He earned a PhD in economics from M.I.T. and was a faculty member at Rutgers University for 29 years. He published research on income distribution and the Social Security system. He particularly enjoyed teaching students. He was a regular visitor to Monmouth Park Racetrack.
Michael is survived by his wife, Nikki Taussig; son, Nicholas Taussig; daughter, Dana Levin; son-in-law, Michael Levin; grandchildren, Julia and Theodore Levin, and his brother, Peter Taussig. A special thank you is owed to the devoted staff at the Parker Home, who cared for Michael with great kindness for almost 5 years.
