Christina Vander Wende, died on 10/26/2010. She was Professor (Emeritus) for the Pharmacology & Toxicology Department, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. She was an alumnus of the Rutgers Newark Class of 1959.
There will be a graveside service at the Laurel Grove Memorial Park in the Spirit of Resurrection Mausoleum on Friday at 12 noon. Arrangements are by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, N.J. 07481, www.vpfh.com.
Christina Vander Wende, Ph.D., 80, of Basking Ridge died on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010. Born in Paterson, N.J., Chris lived in North Branch, N.J., from 1969 until moving to Fellowship Village in 2009. Chris received a B.S. at Upsala College in 1952. She received her M.S. in 1957 and a Ph.D. in the field of physiology and biochemistry in 1959 from Rutgers University. Chris eventually became a full professor of biochemistry and physiology at the Rutgers University School of Pharmacology. She was a research scientist and was recognized in "Who's Who in American Women." Chris was a philanthropist and always supported causes related to nature and the environment. She is survived by her aunt, Betty Certaro, and many cousins. She will be sorely missed by her cousin, Connie Cervati. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Mary; her brother, Richard, a World War II hero, and her close friend, Marie Spoerlein.
