Roy Marvin Bertelsen, 78, of Saylorsburg, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in East Stroudsburg, Pa. Born March 21, 1932, in Jersey City, N.J., Roy was the son of the late John Herbert and Arnhild Bertelsen. After his mother died, Roy was lovingly raised by Amanda Bertelsen. Prior to retirement, Roy served in the U.S. Navy, graduated from Columbia University, and was staff architect at Rutgers University for 25 years. As a volunteer, Roy dedicated his life to helping people, particularly children needing families and homes. His older brother, George Bertelson, preceded him in death. Roy was the husband of Agnes Bertelsen with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Roy is survived by seven children, Aline, Russel, Anne, John, Philip, Timothy, and Amy, and 17 grandchildren.
