Joe Buchel, died on 03/05/2012.
Joe requested that there be no memorial service but rather a celebration of his life in July on the Delaware River.
Joe Buchel, 81, of Sussex, N.J., formerly of Clinton, N.J., passed away on March 5, in the home of his loving partner of 26 years, Janet Spong (Cedar Grove), after a long battle with brain cancer. The oldest son of immigrants from Liechtenstein, Joe served in the Armed Forces in Germany just after World War II. After returning from the war, he attended college in Doylestown, Pa., and studied agriculture. Joe then worked for Rutgers University and was the 4-H agent for Hunterdon County and state specialist in environmental science until his retirement in 1985. Although Joe had many passions, ranging from traveling the world with Janet, helping his four children with their many projects and raising mums with the Chrysanthemum Society in Morristown, N.J., the dearest to his heart was The Seeing Eye. Joe raised many dogs for the Seeing Eye and still had a dog at the time of his death, Abe. Another passion was the Delaware River Clean-Up in Kittatiny, N.Y., in which he participated for 21 years, cleaning up the river by canoe with his children and grandchildren. Joe is survived by his daughters, Patti Buchel, Terri Buchel and Laurie Caprioni; son, Glen Buchel; eight grandchildren, William and Joe Erwin, Tyler and Michael Sinclair, Amanda and Adam Buchel, Nicholas and Mia Caprioni, and a sister in Albany, N.Y. He was predeceased by a brother.
Donations in his memory can be made to The Seeing Eye Foundation of Morristown.
