Frank Burns, Rutgers former football coach, died on 07/14/2012.
Plans for a memorial service have not been finalized, but a service is expected in August at Rutgers’ Kirkpatrick Chapel on the Old Queens Campus.
Coach Burns remains the winningest football coach in Rutgers history, the architect of the program’s first rise to national prominence.
When Frank Burns was done coaching the Scarlet Knights, he had amassed 78 victories over an 11-year span that would constitute a golden age for Rutgers football — one that included a perfect 11-0 season in 1976 and the school’s first bowl appearance two years after that.
