Gilbert S. Panson died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at home. He was 92. Cremation was private under the direction of Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Born in Paterson, N.J., on April 11, 1920, Panson resided in Livingston, N.J., before moving to Monroe Township, N.J.
In 1941 he graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a degree in chemistry. He also received his master's degree in 1951, and Ph.D. in 1953 from Columbia University.
Panson was an instructor/assistant professor at Hobart College from 1941 to 1944. He worked at Oak Ridge Tennessee, Manhattan Project, from 1944 to 1946. He was also professor of chemistry, department chair, and acting dean at Rutgers University-Newark from 1946 to 1985.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Patricia Devens Panson; a daughter, Leslie Blumstein and her husband, Ron, of Warren, N.J.; a son, Richard Panson of Somerset, N.J.; a brother, Armand Panson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and two grandchildren, Amanda Armistead and Jason Blumstein.
