Miguel A. Estremera, 61, died on March 29, 2013. He was registrar of Rutgers–Newark and an alumnus of the Graduate School of Education.
Estremera served the Rutgers-Newark community for 37 years. He began his work at Rutgers in the Office of Admissions, but soon after moved to the Office of the Registrar. He was appointed registrar in 1991.
He was a treasured mentor to many students as well as to his staff, and was the staff liaison for the Latino students organization at Rutgers–Newark.
Estremera was a graduate of Rutgers–New Brunswick, from which he received his Ph.D. in education. He is survived by his wife Norma Estremera, a Rutgers–Newark and Rutgers–New Brunswick alumna; and three children—Gabriel; Cristina, a current student at Rutgers–Newark; and Marisa, a current student at Rutgers–New Brunswick.
Funeral services were held on April 2 at the Brunswick Memorial Home in East Brunswick, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew R.C. Church in East Brunswick. He is interred at Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick, New Jersey.
