James J. Wilhelm
James J. Wilhelm (80) passed away near Youngstown, Ohio, on December 13, 2012.
Wilhelm taught in the Department of Comparative Literature for over 40 years before retiring in 1997. His very popular undergraduate courses included Medieval Epic and Romance and Medieval Lyric; on the graduate level he taught seminars in Old Provencal language and literature, and medieval literature of several countries. His 19 books include the groundbreaking anthology Medieval Song: An Anthology of Hymns and Lyrics (1971), several editions of European versions of the Arthurian romance, and a biography in two volumes of Ezra Pound (1990 and 1994).
He is fondly remembered by his colleagues and by his many graduate and undergraduate students.
