Alexander J. Zaros (59) died on February 17, 2014, at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, New Jersey. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Zaros was raised in Nutley and lived in Dayton for over 20 years.
Zaros served as the business director for the Office of Business and Finance at the Rutgers School of Public Health. Zaros was with the school for more than 15 years and at the university for many more. Zaros played a critical role in all aspects of the school’s financial management and planning, and in the school’s transition to Rutgers University. Zaros was widely respected throughout Legacy UMDNJ for his financial and budgetary acumen, but more importantly he was held in great esteem and affection by all who interacted with him, especially by his business office “family.” Zaros will be sorely missed, not only for his professional expertise, but for his kindness, good humor, and personal interest in all those who worked with him.
Zaros is survived by his wife, Colleen (McGuinness); daughter, Alexandra; sister, Kelly (Allan) Berman; parents, James and Effie Zaros; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Bob) Fischer, Karen (Matt) Meenan, and Sharon (Mike) Zaintz; brother-in-law, Jerry McGuinness, and nieces and nephews, Matthew, Melissa, Brittany, Brendan, and Aidan. Alex will be missed by his many loving friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee.
