Mrs. Lydia Manfredonia died Friday afternoon, July 15, 2011 at her home in Somerset. She was 85. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, Mrs. Manfredonia had lived in North Bergen and Bogota, NJ before settling in Somerset in 1964. She had worked as a secretary for the Math and Computer Sciences Department at Rutgers University. Lydia was a lifelong Catholic, and a parishioner of St. Augustines Church in Kendall Park. She sang in the choir at St. Peters Church in New Brunswick, and was a member of the Renew Prayer Group at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Lydia, or "Nanny Lyd," was a devoted and loving grandmother.
Mrs. Manfredonia was predeceased by her sister, Bernice Freeh in 2001. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Norman Manfredonia; her daughters, Claire Chomentowski and son-in-law Tom of Vermont, Diane Musto and son-in-law Joe of Hillsborough, and Janet Italia and her husband John of Belle Mead; her sons, Jim Manfredonia and his wife Cheryl of Fairless Hills, PA, and David Manfredonia and his wife Suzanne of Marlton; and her 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday July 19th at 10 am at St. Augustines of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park. Burial will be in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Mrs. Manfredonia's name to Domestic Church Media Foundation P.O.
