Donald L. Halsted
Donald L. Halsted (80) died on February 13, 2014, at his home in Bethlehem Township.
Born in Muir, Michigan, on March 21, 1933, son of Walter and Leona Halsted, Donald moved to New Jersey in 1963 when he took a position as an associate professor at the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He taught sociology of education for 36 years. He was the department chair for a number of years and was active as a grievance counselor for the AAUP.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie; his son, Benjamin Halsted and his wife Deborah of Littleton, Colo.; daughter, Beth Wyman and her husband Paul of Centennial, Colo.; daughter, Alicea Zelesny and her husband William of Pittstown; daughter, Diane Halsted and her husband Mohammad Farooq of Edison; his grandchildren, Erik and Kiera Halsted, Alex and Megan Wyman, and Yasmeen and Shan Farooq.
He served on the Bethlehem Township Board of Adjustment for many years. He was also on the Hunterdon County Allocations Committee, and was on the Board of Directors of United Way of Hunterdon.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking bread and his pets.
