Robert C. Stuart
Robert C. Stuart, a professor and long-time faculty member in the Department of Economics, School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers University–New Brunswick, passed away on February 6, 2015.
Stuart was a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the University of Wisconsin, where he was awarded a Ph.D. He completed his dissertation at the Russian Research Center at Harvard, where he met Paul Gregory. Together they wrote seven editions of textbooks on the former Soviet Union and Comparative Economic Systems. Stuart authored many articles on these areas of expertise.
He was a professor in the Department of Economics at Rutgers University–New Brunswick for 37 years. For six of those years he was the department chair. He served as a visiting professor at Princeton University for 15 years. He also served a term as editor-in-chief of the "Journal of Comparative Economic Studies." He retired from Rutgers in 2005.
Stuart is survived by his wife, Beverly; his daughter, Andrea; a son, Craig; and a grandson.
He resided in Bellingham, Washington, and Thetis Island, BC, Canada.
Private memorial services were held in Victoria and in New Jersey. The family requests donations may be made to a cancer charity of one's choice.
