Martha E. Streu
Martha E. Streu, a retired academic administrator, passed away on July 19, 2015, at her residence in Greenville, S.C. She was 88.
Streu was an academic administrator for 15 years, retiring in 1988 as secretary and administrator of the Rutgers University Senate. She had been a member of the American Political Science Association, the Academy of Political Science, and the American Association of University Administrators.
She earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree in the political science program at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. She was elected as a lifetime member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.
She also served for 15 years as a member of the U.S. State Department's Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid, where she chaired the subcommittee on registration. Representing the advisory committee, she traveled to India and Africa to inspect and evaluate the programs of private voluntary agencies receiving assistance from U.S.A.I.D.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert; six children, Laura Lee Hillier, John Emery Leiss, Kay Lynne Stark, Phoebe Irvine, Jill Ann Irvine, and Sadi Irvine; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
