Dolores (Dee) Mathis
Dolores Mathis, a former student loan specialist for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences who retired after 40 years of service, passed away on August 24, 2015. A memorial service was held on August 29 at Faith Temple Church, East Orange, N.J.
Known to many as "Dee" or "Miss Dee," she joined the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now part of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences) in 1971 and retired 2011. Mathis spent approximately 32 of those 40 years in the Accounts Payable Department.
In 1994 she was promoted to supervising accounts payable technician. She was again promoted in 2001 to student loan specialist in the Student Loan Department, where she worked for eight years before retiring. She worked hard to make sure that students at New Jersey Medical School and Rutgers School of Dental Medical received their loans on time.
Mathis worked tirelessly in her church, Faith Temple, and enjoyed Bible studies.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Washington; a son-in-law, Michael Washington; a sister, Janet Mathis; two granddaughters, Renai and Malia; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and individuals who "adopted" her as a surrogate mother, church mother, prayer warrior, or friend.
