William R. Jenkins
William Robert Jenkins, 88, of Monroe Township, N.J., who spent more than 50 years at the university and served as dean of Livingston College, passed away November 23, 2015, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Private funeral arrangements were made by the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, Monmouth Junction, N.J.
Jenkins earned a bachelor of science degree from the College of William and Mary, a masterís degree from the University of Virginia, and a doctorate from the University of Maryland. In addition to serving as Livingston College dean, he was a biology professor and director of the health professions office.
Born in Hertford, N.C., Jenkins lived in Piscataway before moving to Monroe in 2013. He was a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Jenkins founded Boy Scout Troop 1969 in Stanton, N.J., and served as scoutmaster for several years. He was also a board of education president.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; two sons and two daughters-in-law, William Brian and Penny Jenkins and Robert Edward and Marilyn Jenkins; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Joe Duffy and Linda Burns; and seven grandchildren.
